I have pelvic pain but I’ve just found out I don’t have endometriosis, what do I do?
The process of seeking a diagnosis or reason behind your pelvic pain symptoms can be long and frustrating.
If you find out that your ultrasound or laparoscopy was clear of endometriosis and adenomyosis, it can be incredibly disheartening.
Not everyone who lives with pelvic pain has endometriosis or adenomyosis and in the absence of any other tangible gynaecological factors, people can feel lost as to where to go for help.
There are lots of factors that can influence pelvic pain and not all of these require surgery.
We are now finding that the most effective approaches to treat pelvic pain involve a team approach which can include a great pain and trauma informed team of a skilled GP, gynaecologist, pelvic health physiotherapist, dietician and psychologist. Not everyone is going to need all of these services, however most people who have lived with pelvic pain for some time will have contributing factors to their pain that will need the attention of a team of health professionals.
From a pelvic health physiotherapy perspective, we delve into your pain and symptom patterns to see whether the pelvic floor muscles/ muscles surrounding the pelvis may play a role in your pain experience. We also discuss your bladder, bowel and sexual function to ascertain whether there are symptoms co-existing with your pain that we can help you with that may have an effect on your pain symptoms.
Depending on your needs and situation, we work to assist you with the following:
Pelvic Floor muscle education and training
Education and advice on conservative pain management strategies (for pelvic pain and/or pain with sex)
Bladder and bowel optimisation strategies
There can be a connection between jaw and pelvic tension and we work on the interlink of these symptoms to positively influence your pelvic pain
Optimising control of the muscles surrounding your pelvis to take some of the pressure off your pelvic floor muscles
